Sylvia H. Nutsukpui is a lawyer, gender equality advocate, and development practitioner with more than 22 years of experience in legal policy, human rights, peacebuilding, and international development. She is Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Initiative for Gender Equality and Development in Africa (IGED-Africa), where she provides strategic leadership and oversees the organization’s programmes, partnerships, and institutional growth.
At IGED-Africa, Sylvia leads initiatives that advance women’s rights, gender equality, and inclusive governance across Africa. Her work focuses on strengthening policy advocacy, institutional capacity, and regional collaboration while supporting the implementation of the Maputo Protocol and other regional and international human rights frameworks.
Alongside her role at IGED-Africa, Sylvia serves as Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Acting Director of the Women, Youth, Peace and Security Institute at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC). Throughout her career, she has worked closely with the African Union, ECOWAS, the United Nations, the World Bank, governments, and civil society organizations to promote gender-responsive policy and sustainable development.
Sylvia holds a Bachelor of Laws degree together with Master’s degrees in Social Policy and International Business, complemented by professional training in human rights, leadership, and climate change.
She is committed to advancing practical, policy-driven solutions that strengthen women’s leadership, promote social justice, and contribute to inclusive development across Africa.
